International Art Competition - Youth

ARISE and
SHINE FORTH
DOCTRINE AND COVENANTS 115:4-6

In Doctrine and Covenants 115:4-6, the Lord speaks to all the people of His Church, issuing them a call to action. He invites Latter-day Saints from all nations to "arise and shine forth" so that their "light may be a standard for the nations." He asks them to join together to support one another and become a "refuge from the storm."
With this call for entries, The Church History Museum invites the youth of the worldwide Church to ponder this passage in the Doctrine and Covenants and create works of art that express what the Lord's request- "Arise and Shine Forth" -means to you. Consider the following questions and think about how you could depict the concepts through art. Let your artistic talent shine!

Consider:

  • What does it mean for Latter-day Saint youth to "arise and shine forth"?
  • How can the light of Latter-day Saints be a standard for the nations?
  • What kinds of storms (or trials) do youth face, and how does the gospel provide refuge?

Chastity: What Are the Limits?

This youth website video creatively shows why that's the wrong question to ask and explains, through teachings of modern prophets, how we can find happiness and peace through virtue. This is an effective resource to prompt discussion on sexual purity. The video could be used in an activity, devotional, Sunday class, or shared directly with each young woman through e-mail or Facebook.
